We are please to announce that the finished POD tents have now arrived in the UK , We are conducting our final inspection and writing and filming the setup instructions to help you easily erect the tents. We hope to have this done in the next 5-7 days and then the POD’s will be available for you to purchase. The finished product is truly stunning and will certainly stand out in any camp site , The silver lining of the POD gives it a real space age feel inside and also blocks out a lot of the external light. Keep your eye peeled as POD’s start to appear all around the country ..
We are pleased to announce that POD’s will be exhibiting at the Outdoor trade show held in Stoneleigh Park Warwickshire between September 8th – September 11th 2013.
Why not come and see the POD’s in the flesh at the outdoor stand 60-1 to see them up close and personal.
The final factory inspection on the first manufacturing batch of the POD tents is now complete and they are on their way to us by sea. They will take around 4 weeks to arrive and we cannot wait as the finished product looks absolutely amazing. You can see from the images that there has been several improvements since the initial development POD’s, The material is now black and has a silver coating giving the inside of the POD’s a real space age feel. The material is now rated at PU6000 and has passed the CPAI84 fire testing, we have also added an additional screen mesh door throughout so you can have the external doors open but keep those bugs out.
To give you some idea of how amazing the POD’s are we have produced these walk around and virtual tours using the first 3 development POD’s, these are not the production versions and are only intended to give you a taste of what the POD is in the flesh.
In January 2013 Jason Thorpe traveled to China to visit the factory and sign off on the first 3 development PODS , it was the culmination of 2 years of blood sweat and tears and countless sleepless nights.
So after 2 failed designs we once again we went away and reworked all the sizing / stress / specification details and ensured that it was going to be 3rd time lucky. So taking inspiration and everything learned in what had been a 4 month process we managed to get a design that looked great and worked exactly as we wanted.
So having had the flaw’s in design 1 identified by the technical team at the factory it was onto design 2 for the POD , this time a radical octagonal design was on the cards but again technical issues in the poles design and functionality forced us back again to rethink how we could actually bring this product to life !
Following on from the initial scribbles sent to the designer the first professional drawings of a round designed POD were created and the search for a factory began. It was also at this stage that we started to register the POD branding / Logo and designs in the UK & Europe.
Following a family camping trip and a summer of festival going Jason Thorpe of M2C Innovation started to scribble some ideas of a new tenting concept. The reason was that when camping with friends and small children Jason and his wife had to decide when it was bed time for the kids who would go back to the tent with them and who could stay and socialise with their group of friends. Each of the families also had to make the same choice so Jason got to thinking “what if” you had a group of tents that were interconnect and you could socialise as a group of people in 1 tent knowing that your children were also secure in a tent that was only a tunnel distance away. He was also fed up of huddling under a Gazebo to keep dry and warm at a festival when back at the camp sites in the evenings , again he had his” what if” moment.
