Tips for a Stress Free Camping Holiday – POD Tents
Everyone here at POD tents thinks that camping trips are the ultimate choice in holidays and short breaks, however we know they can be slightly more stressful than other holidays. Staying in hotels, villas or holiday parks can be an easier option, and very relaxing and enjoyable, but it lacks a lot of the fun and adventure involved in a UK camping holiday. The ‘staycation’ is on the rise, as people choose to get back to nature and explore their home soil rather than splash out on travelling abroad.
So, while camping holidays can be lots of fun and include lots of quality family time, outdoor trips rarely come without obstacles to overcome and little hiccups along the way. First, you usually have to drive to the location of the campsite, which can be stressful during school holiday or weekend traffic. Then there’s pitching the tent which is often a feat in itself; if you have children they are usually moaning they’re bored by this point. It doesn’t take much for a huge family argument to brew if the parents are stressed out – not an ideal start to the family holiday! So to make sure you get the break you want, try top tips for a completely stress free camping holiday:
- Invest in a reliable tent. Choosing a tent that takes minimal time and effort to pitch is essential if you want to guarantee a hassle-free start to the holiday. Our POD maxi tent can be pitched by 2 people in around 20 minutes, with the option of attaching separate sleeping cells or tents as bedrooms. The easy structure with 8 poles, all the same size and shape, makes it incredibly easy to set up for the camping beginner and expert alike.
- Ensure you have all the essentials needed for the trip before you set off– this will depend on what sort of campsite you are staying at. And check, check and check again before you fire up the engine and head off into the Great Outdoors. If your chosen site is quite rural and far away from attractions and restaurants, take a camp kitchen so you can make a few meals around the campfire. This is great for keeping older kids entertained as they will enjoy helping out by fetching water or wood for the fire. However, preparing the whole meal and fire, then realising you’ve forgotten the pans is a sure fire way to kill the mood for a few days.
- Give children their independence! The reason why families argue during camping trips is because everyone’s space is limited, even though you’re probably in the middle of acres of rolling hills and woodland. Let your kids make friends with other kids and go exploring. Create separate sleeping areas for the adults and the children; this is easily done with POD’s modular tent system.
- Don’t ban electrical items. It is easy to say that no iPods, iPads or games consoles are allowed in a bid to get back to nature and experience the simple life for a few days; but this is the wrong approach. Let the kids bring their expensive gadgets, but make it your mission to make the camping trip so fun that they don’t even think about using them.
